Converting local school to Cloud Computing

Today we finalised the installation of one of our local schools installation and migration to cloud computing.

We are avid fans of cloud computing and the benefits of joining the movement in my opinion outweigh the costs to convert.

Our local school has shifted from traditional Microsoft Outlook and Email setup to Google Apps Education.

Now they are able to access all their emails using any internet connected computer by going to the gmail.com website logging in with their email address and password.

We have also converted the school to cloud file storage using Dropbox which means all the students have access to their files from any computer on their network and any computer in the world that has access to the internet.

We installed a TP-Link wireless router which was connected to a Cisco Modem provided by Schoolzone.
Schoolzone is a Telecom service for Schools which provide firewall and internet filtering for the school.  One issue we do not have to worry about which is a huge relief.

The installation was not faultless though as we ran into some issues with a user of the network who had plugged in their own router which was interfering with the IP Addressing and DNS server of the Cisco router.

However once removed from the network the internet was nice and fast and all computers had access to the files required!
